Contains published materials which document the secondary and collegiate sports officiating activities of Samuel D. Jackson. Includes handbooks for basketball and football officials, minutes of the National Alliance Athletic Association football committee meetings, and printed materials from National Federation of State High School Athletic Associations meetings. The collection also contains a playbook with football plays written by William Senter "Pedie" Jackson and other college coaches.

After World War I, Samuel D. Jackson coached football at his alma mater, Emory & Henry College, before becoming an insurance agent in Bristol, Tenn. In 1927, Jackson married Sarah Hunter of Johnson City, Tenn.; that year he began working for R.C. Hunter Insurance Company in Johnson City. William Franklin Jackson was born in 1850 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and studied art with Virgil Williams, and Benoni Irwin. He was best known for his landscape paintings of California. He was an instructor at the San Francisco School of Design, 1886-1900, and Director of the E.B. Crocker Gallery, 1885-1936.
